Reflection 1: Responds on CALL Experience

Experience in BENL courses.
In BENL courses, apparently it focused to two main parts which are linguistic and literature. What we can reflect throughout our study in more or less five years including two years in foundation before, this course has exposed us to the new world with the new instruments compared to era of high school before. Regarding the subjects in the courses, it does not necessarily imply the concept of learning during the lecture only, also, it brought the students to develop their skill of acting especially when it comes to the drama or literature class. In the meantime, it applies the concept two-in-one when it helps students to understand the literature along with developing their skills of acting. Other than that, what we gain throughout our experience as BENL students is, our confidence when proposing the ideas in front of class during presentation whether group presentations or individual presentations. Those persons who were lacking their confidence before, they tend to be more brave and confident when facing the audience. As BENL students, practically we learnt more the literature parts as we tend to know in a broader scope rather that in higher school before not only the local literature, also, in international literature that needed more attention and interest to learn.

Assignments that required 3 stages of CALL.
In Behaviourist CALL, Phonetics and Phonology is one of the subjects that applies this particular stage. We were given a task of presentation on IPA pronunciation that required us to use video from Youtube for IPA practice. As being stated in Behaviourist CALL, computer was treated as knowledge provider. Throughout the assignments, the video served as a tutor when students needed to listen to the video and repeatedly practice.
Meanwhile, in Communicative CALL, Introduction to Pragmatics is the example of subjects that required computer application in this stage. For this subject, students were required to access Edmodo application in order to carry out the online midterm within the given period. In this approach, computer is regarded as a pupil. Here, students and computer needed to work together in answering quiz provided by Edmodo.
Lastly, in Integrative CALL, Language for Occupational Purposes is one of subjects that applies this particular stage. We were required to do an E-portfolio for our assignment, so we choose to use wix.com. Here, the application was considered as a tool for interactive communication where it allows user to control the application such as organizing databases and interact with audience.
